  • How did Imperialism begin in India?
  • Imperialism began in India because of weakness of the Mughal empire which led to power vacuum, British East India Company, which was a trading company founded during the age of exploration, began to rule the area using “sepoys” who were indian soldiers led by a british commander, and India had a large supply of raw materials and markets for goods
  • How did Imperialism impact the people in India?
  • Imperialism impacted the people in India in many positive and negative ways. Some positive ways were that it brought order and stability to divide states, led to an honest and efficient government, provided infrastructure, benefited education, postal service, transportation, and sanitation and health. Some negative ways were that education was only for elite, upper class indians, british reaped the economical financial benefits, british manufactured the goods, Zaminders increased taxes and took away peoples land, degrading and racism.
  • How did Gandhi change Imperialism in India?
  • Gandhi changed imperialism in india in many ways like persuaded Indians to practice passive resistance , spun his own clothes and encouraged others to do the same, organized protests, protested tax on salt (the Salt March in 1930) where many people were arrested, had 21 day famine against the poor treatment of the poorest Indians in 1933, and in WWII, he wouldn't support Britain unless they were granted Independence.
