They Traveled a small amount of Kansas, however they said it was livable and it was a pretty place. Lewis and Clark described the area as a habitable place.
Jackson's Speech
First American to travel the territory on land. He called Kansas a desert, he claimed that the land was worthless. His word of the place being unless caused a debate.
Indian Removal Act
Stephen Long explored the western side of Kansas, so it was a very different opinion from Louis and Clark. The "Great American Desert" was names by Stephen Long.
President Jacksons speech was about encouraging the congress that no American should be forced to travel the "Great American Desert". He gave the suggestion that that the "Savages" should be relocated to the new land so the United Stated can expand with the old land.
In the Indian Removal Act witch accord in 1830. The Native Americans were forced to move off their lands and relocate them selfs to Kansas and Oklahoma.
