Storyboard Description

Stephen Fuller Austin (November 3, 1793 – December 27, 1836) was an American empresario. Known as the "Father of Texas", and the founder of Texas,[1][2] he led the second, and ultimately, the successful colonization of the region by bringing 300 families from the United States to the region in 1825.

Storyboard Text

  • When Mexico won its independence from Spain in 1821, Mexican Texas was part of the new nation in which that the ratification of the 1824 Constitution of Mexico created a federal structure.
  • Mexico established rules for settling colonies in 1824. They formed a unified Mexican state joining Coahuila and Texas and passed a law which encouraged foreign settlers to buy land in the territory.
  • And the conflict begins!
  • Fearing the possibility of losing control of Texas, Mexico banned further immigration from the United States on April 6, 1830.
  • Santa Anna becomes President of Mexico Santa Anna nullified the 1824 Constitution in favor of a more centralized government and was no longer supportive of Texas self-rule.
