Storyboard Text

  • Point of view
  • "I heard all things in the heaven and in the Earth. I heard many things in hell."
  • Figurative language
  • "A single dim ray, like a thread of a spider, shot from out the crevice and fell upon the vulture eye."
  • Tone
  • One example of when the author introduces a suspenseful tone to the story is on line 26-29. When he mentioned about stalking the old man for the 7 long nights.
  • This text both shows how he's unreliable and the point of view because It mentions I, Me, My so that means it's first-person. It also shows he's unreliable because you can't even hear from heaven and hell making him insane/unreliable
  • Repitition
  • "And this I did for seven long nights—every night just at midnight—but I found the eye always closed; and so it was impossible to do the work."
  • the statement above represents a simile because it compares two things (thread of spider and dim ray) using like/as.
  • Symbolism
  • This is suspenseful due to the fact that the reader has no idea when he's going to commit the crime. He could got him at any moment and just really keeps you questioning things.
  • Imagery
  • The heart is a form of imagery in the story
  • This is a representation of repetition due to the fact that the text states that the narrator is continuously doing an action over and over again.
  • The eye symbolizes the bad side or devilish side because the eye is what drove him to kill. The reader would have no idea if he would have "followed through" if it weren't for that eye "pulling him in" or driving him to the edge.
  • The Old man's eye symbolizes a form of pushing someone over the edge. It also can represent a form of a "bad side" or "devil".
  • The hearing is an example of imagery because you can't really tell what it is. Is it actually the old man's heart? Is it the narrator's heart? Is it something else clicking? Can others hear? I could keep going on and on but il stop there. But if the heart is actually the old man, can the police find it and catch the narrator?
