In this very room I made a breakthrough in bacterial studies. While I was examining lung tissue from patients who had died of pneumonia. I had discovered that certain stains were preferentially taken up and retained by bacterial cells. I then dried a fluid smear on a glass slide over a burner flame and poured Gentian (crystal) violet solution over it. I then added more solutions and finally spread ethanol on the slide. I Figured out that some bacteria can maintain the color (Gram positive) and other bacteria became bleached and decolorized. 9Gram Negative) I created a method that figures out if a bacteria is Gram-Positive or Gram-Negative.
Hello, My name is Hans Christian Gram today I will be telling you a little about me and my studies. First let me take you guys back to the begging of my crear.
I was born on September 13th, 1853. I began with studying botany at the University of Copenhagen in Denmark. The studies of Botany introduced me into different bacteria's in plants how to use different equipment in a lab properly. I then graduated from medical school and traveled around Europe and finally settled and began my hard studies in Berlin.
This is my lab back at home. Here I conducted most of my studies and labs. I initially began studying humanred blood cells. Not to brag but I was among the first to recognize thatmacrocytes were characteristicof pernicious anemia.
This study and new method that I have found can always be used and is a very good way to figure out if Bacteria is Gram-Positive or Gram-negative. Being able to help the world with my studies has been a life long dream. I did what i love and got to help the world with a major breakthrough in bacterial studies.
Thank you so much for joining me today and listening to a little bit about me and my work. Bye!
