Hello, My name is Dr. Kizzmekia Corbett today I will be telling you a little about me and what my team and I do on a daily bases.
Being a minority in the scientific field gives me an important role. 18% of all students graduate with a STEM degree, among 2% are black. Having that role makes me more motivated and makes me want to do better in my job. being able to create the vaccine that saved millions of people has made me feel accomplished. Working here as a viral immunologist at the NIH allows me to pursue my dream career and show my talent.
I am 34 years old. I Got my Ph. D. in Microbiology and Immunology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2014. I then started working as a viral immunologist in training. Lets head up to my lab.
This is my lab. Here me and my team develop different vaccines and conduct immunization research for deadly diseases. My most recent accomplishment was being able to develop a vaccine for the COVID 19 virus. The vaccine that was created in this building has been distributed to over 6.5 million people and saved a tremendous amount of lives.
My love for science and Microbiology started from a young age. I was always motivated and pushed to become who I am today. I never thought my work and doing the thing that I love can help so many people. Being able to help so many people with the vaccine and bringing the world slightly back to normal makes me happy and feel like I have made a positive change in the world.
Dr. Corbett is the best!
Thank you so much for joining me today and listening to a little bit about me and what I do in the NIH. Bye!
