Setting: Caribbean Sea/Ship Trap Island. Sanger Rainsford, a big game hunter and author, follows the sound of a gunshot to an island. He traverses it until he comes across a house where he meets an arrogant General Zaroff.
Climax
Zaroff conveys that after hunting wild animals, he’s moved to a more challenging foe: humans. He plans to place Rainford into the games. Rainsford is given a head start. Zaroff almost loses immediately, but Rainsford doesn't give up.
Falling Action
Zaroff, in order to outwit his opponents, decides to set traps for the hunters trying to kill him. As a result, he manages to kill a pack of his dogs, as well as his closest companion (Ivan). Out of rage, Sanger confronts Zaroff in his humble abode.
Resolution

Rainsford declares that he has never slept in a more comfortable bed before. Because of the prior falling action, we can infer that Rainsford kills Zaroff since the winner gets to sleep in their bed.
In the story, Rainsford tells Zaroff he is a 'beast at bay. ' By this he declares that instead of being the prey, he is now the hunter and Zaroff is his prey. Rainsford defeats Zaroff and sleeps in his bed.
