  • And so Goudaa rides his spaceship to find the treasures...
  • American Investment
  • Mmhhh... Why no one reading Maclean’s Magazines?
  • Looks like I have found it!
  • Let's go see that results of my endeavours!
  • My dad's startup finally has investors!
  • Although the economy improved, Canada is now dependent on American for all its employment exports, which doesn't at all sound like autonomy...
  • WE FINALLY HAVE JOBS NOW!
  • Quite slacking off! We aren't paying you for nothing!
  • I know I should be happy because more people are employed, but doesn't this mean we are completely dependent on America for everything??
  • Ohh no... Canada can't be autonomous if no one is supporting DOMESTIC industries...
  • Worse, Canadian domestic producers cannot compete with cheap, popular, and abundant imports from the US.
  • Did you listen to the new American podcast? The commentary was spot on!
  • Ohh no my brain is no longer working... Maybe I should go home and take a rest.
  • American Teahouse
  • I haven't yet; I was busy watching the new talkie!
  • As American FDI streamed in, US branch plants and companies such as the British empire steel corporation became the main employers for Canadians.
  • Although Goudaaa's concerns of US dependency have not died down, another problem knocks on the door.
  • At least we are rich enough now to become independent from British influence!!
  • In fact, 2) over 75% of Canada's Newsprint was exported to the US and US owned over 50% of rubber and electrical companies. Moreover, 2)Canadian companies gained more than $700 million worth of new shares during 1922-1926, issued particularly to US investors. However, this made Canada economically dependent on the US for investment and export. In other words, if the US economy fails, Canada's would fail with it.
  • Canada declines British control and succeeds! Is Goudaaa a step closer to its goal?
  • Not today Britain!!
  • CANADA TIME TO FIGHT!!!!
  • Canada still lacked internal mechanisms to be socially independent, as 3) 300,000 Canadians tuned to American stations rather than Canadian ones by the end of the 1920s. Moreover, 3) the talkies that arrived in 1927 dominated Canadian entertainment, which meant that Canada lacked a sense of distinct social identity.
  • Next, Canada negotiates independently at the Halibut conference.
  • What's up America, it's just us today.
  • HALIBUT TREATY
  • Despite the lack of Canadian autonomy from the US, the economy was definitely beginning to prosper. This equipped Canada with the leverage needed to break free from British control.
  • Looks like a British soldier is walking towards here. That's can't be great...
  • In the 4) 1922 Chanak Crisis, Canada refused to fight for Britain in turkey and Prime Minister 4) Mackenzie King openly challenged the role of governor's general in the King-Byng Crisis of 1926. Both events show Canada is becoming strong and independent enough to stop taking all of Britain's orders.
  • In fact, we are going to decide our own borders and YOU CAN'T COME!
  • 9) Halibut Treaty between US and Canada 1923 settled borders without British interference, displaying Canada's emerging autonomy as a country.
  • Let's go CANADA!
  • Hayy! I thought this was going to be as easy as the Lyn Canal!
