  • Your child has down syndrome. Also known as trisomy 21. This will affect his brain and body.

  • How did this happen?
  • Down syndrome is caused by having three copies of chromosome 21.
  • Symptoms
  • Your child will have a small head, ears and mouth. He will also have a flattened facial profile and a short neck with excess skin on the back of his neck.
  • Treatment
  • What can I do to treat this condition?
  • There are a variety of different treatments such as support groups, physical therapy, and special education.
  • Cure or Experimental Drug
  • Unfortunately there is no cure for down syndrome but early treatment can help improve skills.
  • Prognosis
  • Don't feel too bad. This condition is not inherited. It occurs when random events happen during the formation of reproductive cells.
