I will not take your bribe king Minos is searching the ships.
Daedalus tries to bribe the ship captains to smuggle them out of Crete but, king Minos searches the boats so Daedalus and Icarus won't escape the Island. "Several times he tried by bribery to stow away on one of the vessels sailing from Crete, but King Minos kept strict watch over them, and no ships were allowed to sail without being carefully searched." 6-9
Daedalus has an idea to fly off the of Crete so he makes two pairs of wings made of wax and feathers Icarus collected on the shore. "He called his son,Icarus, to him and told the boy to gather up all the feathers he could find on the rocky shore. As thousands of gulls soared over the island, soon Icarus collected a large pile of feathers. Daedalus then melted some wax and made a skeleton in the shape of bird wings.¨
Daedalus tells Icarus to keep at a moderate height or the sun would melt the wax that holds the wing together and Icarus would fall. They fly around Crete a little then set off to cross the ocean. ¨Father and son flew over Samos and Delos, which lay on their left, and Lebinthus, which lay on their right.
Icarus flew too high and the wax holding his wings together melted and fell into the ocean. "No feathers remained to hold the air. He cried out to his father, but his voice was submerged in the blue waters of the sea.¨
Daedalus then flew back to an island and buried Icarus and called the land Icaria in his memory. Daedalus then flew to Sicily and made a temple to honor the god Apollo and hung his wings in it.
