  • We Need Butter!
  • It's in the cellar, but "we can get along without it" (Twain 273)
  • Well I want it, so go down into the cellar and get it.
  • Where's the butter??
  • In the Cellar
  • Tom? "What you been doing down here?" (Twain 174). Get up here this instant!
  • I got the butter! No one will even know I have it under this hat.
  • In the Setting-Room
  • Why are there so many people?? They might ruin our plan!
  • Tom(right) and Huck(left) are devising a plan to rescue Huck's friend, Jim, from his captors. Jim is locked in a little shed out back. Tom is very advent about using butter in their scheme; Huck, however, sees no point. Tom is always suggesting new and unusual ways to break Jim out even though they could easily break Jim out.
  • Breaking Out Jim
  • Huck! You're here!!
  • What took you so long?
  • Huck gets the butter from the cellar and is about to go sneak out of the house to go meet up with Tom, but Aunt Sally catches him and makes him go upstairs. Aunt Sally thinks that Huck is Tom because he portrayed Tom to get out of trouble and Tom went with it.
  • Escape
  • Run!!!
  • Help guys, I'm stuck!
  • As Huck enters the setting-room, he sees a group of about 15 farmers, all of them have guns. He is now very nervous to see if his and Tom's plan will actually work. After a while, Aunt Sally sends Huck off and he runs to the shed to meet up with Tom so they can break Jim out.
  • Freedom
  • Tom, you need to see a doctor
  • It appears I've been shot
  • I'm free!!
  • Huck rushes to the shed to warn Tom of the unexpected visitors. They quickly break out Jim as the men arrive. Their plan seems to be working, but Tom's pants get stuck on the fence and he has to pull them loose.
  • We have to hurry and get Jim out now! There are about 15 guys with guns coming our way! I knew this plan was too complicated.
  • When Tom is pulling his pants from the fence, it makes a sound that alerts the men as to their whereabouts. A guy shoots at them and the bullets fly all around them. The men then send the dogs after them but it doesn't work because the dogs are familiar with the boys so they leave them alone.
  • “Who’s that? Answer, or I’ll shoot!” (Twain 276)
  • Bang!!
  • Go get em boy!
  • The boys escape and head to Huck's raft. Tom is finally free! However, a complication arises as they realize that Tom was hit by a bullet. Tom is happy because it is exactly like how it would be in his adventure books, with the hero getting hurt trying to save the day. Huck advises Tom to see a doctor.
