In 1992, a shipping crate containing 28,000 plastic bath toys was lost at sea when it fell overboard on its way from Hong Kong to the United States. Those same bath toys are still floating in the world's oceans 20 years later. They ended up in completely different places, which taught much about ocean currents. I also saw the cause for the currents, how they move, and where they go.
I watched a video about a model that described how temperature and density impact ocean currents. I answered questions that made me Compare and contrast surface ocean currents and thermohaline circulation and also examine the impact of uneven heating, wind currents and Earth’s rotation on the movement of ocean currents.
I identified the factors that create surface and deep ocean currents. I also had to explain how ocean currents impact the climate of regions on Earth. In part 1, I read a passage and answered questions. In Part 2, I watched a video and then answered questions.
