The Cyclops trapped Odysseus and some of his men in a forest with only one exit and he started eating some of Odysseus' men. Odysseus had a plan to help them get away from the Cyclops, so he started to feed the Cyclops wine until the cyclops became drunk.
Cyclops, try some wine. Here's liquor to wash down your scraps of men.
Oh I will have some more of this wine, what is your name? In return, I will eat you last.
The cyclops was getting drunk and Odysseus lied to the Cyclops and told him that his name is "Nohbdy". After the Cyclops finished the wine, he went to sleep.
My name is Nohbdy: mother, father, and friends, everyone calls me Nohbdy (from text)
The wine was great and I shall eat you last as a noble gift Nohbdy.
Since nobody did anything to you, we are going back to sleep.
While the Cyclops was sleeping, Odysseus and four of his men rammed a sharp stick right into the Cyclops eye. The Cyclops woke up and called other Cyclopes for help. But the other Cyclopes misheard the Cyclops and thought that he was doing fine so they left him alone.
The Cyclops was blinded and now all Odysseus and his men had to do was escape the forest and he decided that him and his men would hide underneath the sheeps' bellies. They got out of the forest before the Cyclops could realize what they have done to get away.
Nohbdy will not get away if I make sure that only my sheeps can leave the forest.
Odysseus got away from the forest and found his ship that he came to the island on. But the Cyclops was right behind them. Odysseus taunted the Cyclops after getting on his ship. Making the Cyclops very angry. The Cyclops shook the earth of the beach, but this only helped Odysseus and his men to gain more distance between them.
Cyclops! You got tricked by a person that is 5 times smaller than you.
Godsake, Captain! Why bait the beast again? Let him alone! (from text)
The Cyclops prayed to his father, Poseidon. He prayed that Odysseus will be lost at sea and that he will not return home until a very long time. Then, he threw a boulder at the ship and barely missed Odysseus and his men. After that, Odysseus finally escaped from the Cyclopes and the forest.
Grant that Odysseus, raider of cities, never see his home! (from text)
