  • Hi! my name is Abby. Did you know that plastic straws are dangerous to the environment?
  • Today I'm going to go visit my friends at different restaurants to teach them about the dangers of straws.
  • Well, actually there is a lot you can do, for one, you can buy metal straws and reuse them to reduce the amount of straws used. Also, Starbucks actually sells reusable cups with reusable straws in them, so that reduced the amount of plastic cups and straws being thrown away!
  • I know it's very good, but do you know the impact that straw has on the environment? Plastic straws never fully degrade so they never fully go away
  • Yeah its really bad. On avaerge 500 million straws are used in the USA every day
  • Oh hi Avery! That looks like a good drink you have there.
  • Wow, I didn't know that!
  • Hi Abby! It is, I love iced Starbucks drinks.
  • Wow, Americans use a lot of straws, it really adds up. What can I do to help?
  • Wow, thats awesome! Thanks for the help!
  • Thanks Alex, oh cool you have one too! Even the little things help the environment.
  • I'm going to go get a drink with my reusable cup now!
  • Totally!!
  • I hope you enjoyed coming along with me. As you can see, plastic straws are a real danger to the environment. Let's go over one more time what you can do to help the animals. Don't forget, you can buy reusable straws and cups to reduce the amount of trash in the ocean. About 1.5 million pounds of trash go into the oceans every hour, but even you helping the tiniest bit will help. In addition, pick up any trash you see on the ground. That trash harms the environment and can even kill some of our wildlife. Lastly, if you see an animal being injured by trash, call your local animal rehab center ASAP! Like I said before, 1 million animals die a year from trash in the water and you can be the one to save them.
  • Really? That's terrible!!
  • You're absolutely right! Did you know that it is estimated that 1.5 million pounds of plastic go into the water every hour?
  • Yep it sure is! Hey, I saw a sign for an ocean clean up today, we should go!
  • Hi Abby! I like that reusable cup and straw you have!
  • Wow!! That's a lot of trash in the sea!
  • It sure is, good thing we are here to help pick some of it up.
  • Wow, I'm sure happy we could help pick up some trash
  • Let's go on our phones are find a local animal rehab center and call them.
  • Awesome, I need to get going now, could you please show the rehab center where the turtle is?
  • Oh no!! More than 1 million marine animals are killed from trash in the ocean every year.
  • Well, we need to make sure this turtle isn't one of those animals. But, what should we do to help it?
  • Me too. Oh dear, look over there!!! It's a turtle with a plastic straw stuck in its nose!
  • Ok, I just found one and called them, they said they are on their way.
  • I sure will, see you later Abby!
