I think we should hold out the operation Kraai so we can weaken TNI!
All right sir! I'll tell the others to launch operation Kraai!
Oh no! The Dutch took over the main road, bridges and much more!
We are so unprepared!
On 19 December 1948, the Dutch launched a military offensive called Operation Kraai (Crow) against Indonesia after they were no longer bound to the Renville Agreement.
Sorry but I will stay here in Yogyakarta...
President Sukarno! Please evacuate and join the guerilla army.
On 19 December 1948, the Dutch attacked Yogyakarta. It was bombed by the Royal Netherlands East Indies Air Force.
The air attack found the Indonesians unprepared and within hours, the advancing Dutch army had quickly taken the airfield, main road, bridge and strategic locations.
After hearing of the surprise attack, Indonesian military commander General Sudirman broadcast Perintah kilat (quick command) via radios. He also requested Sukarno, Hatta and other leaders to evacuate and join his guerrilla army.
By 20 December, all remaining republican troops in Yogyakarta had been withdrawn. All parts of Indonesia except Aceh and some cantons in Sumatra fell under Dutch control. Sudirman, who was suffering from tuberculosis, led the guerrillas from his sickbed.
