- In "Thank you, M'am" the protagonist is Roger and the antagonist is Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. They are in Harlem in the 1920's at 11pm. The inciting incident is when Roger tries to steal Ms. Luella's pocketbook or purse.
- The door is open.....
- Roger tries to steal Mrs. Luella's purse.
- Mrs. Luella grabs Roger, kicks him in the bottom, asks him why he tried to steal her purse, and takes him to her apartment so he can wash his face
- Thank you, M'am
- Roger sees that the door is open and thinks about whether he should run and betray the woman's trust or if he should run and betray her trust.
- Mrs. Luella makes food for Roger and talks to him a bit.
- Mrs. Luella gives Roger money for shoes of his liking and tells him to behave himself.
