In "Thank you, M'am" the protagonist is Roger and the antagonist is Mrs. Luella Bates Washington Jones. They are in Harlem in the 1920's at 11pm. The inciting incident is when Roger tries to steal Ms. Luella's pocketbook or purse.

Mrs. Luella makes food for Roger and talks to him a bit.
Mrs. Luella gives Roger money for shoes of his liking and tells him to behave himself.
