Storyboard Text

  • Jane gets in trouble, even though John is to blame then is sent to the red-room.
  • “Such a bad child! I wish I never had to raise someone as bad as you. You even had the nerve to hurt my son. Go to the Red Room, now. You need to be punished.”
  • Jane has been sent to the red-room where she will stay for the remainder of the night.
  • “If only Mr. Reed could save me now, I cannot bear to stay in here a minute longer! Not in here with Mr. Reed’s ghost!”
  • While recovering from a cold, Mr. Lloyd pays Jane a visit . He talks to her for a long while about school and the way she is treated at Gateshead.
  • "Yes!"
  • “What do you wish for, girl? To be poor and happy or to be wealthy and miserable? Do you wish to go to school?
  • Mr. Brocklehusrt comes to visit Jane and get an idea of what she is like and see if he is willing to let her come to Lowood. Mrs. Reed, during this visit, ruins Jane's reputation from the start.
  • “I know what is best for you child! You will go to Lowood school, where you can be dealt with away from my children.”
  • “We will make sure such a child will be molded into a child of God, Mrs. Reed. Rest assured she will be free from such cruel luxuries.”
  • Jane meets a girl at Lowood named Helen, who answers some of her questions, but wants Jane to let her read her book.
  • "Are you happy here? How long have you been here at Lowood? Are you an orphan?"
  • “Jane, you ask so many questions that I may answer, but not now. Come back later and I shall answer some more of your questions.”
  • "The punishments as you call them are disciplining me and making me a better person."
  • Jane can't understand why Helen lets the teachers punish her so harshly with no complaint.
  • “The punishments are so cruel, how can you stand for them? I surely wouldn’t!”
