Storyboard Text

  • In this scene, Agamemnon and Achilles argue about the honorability of their deaths. While Achilles died on the battlefield of Troy with Kleos, Agamemnon died as a result of his wife blindsiding him with Aegisthus. In any case, Agamemnon commends Odysseus for winning such an amazing wife since she waited 20 years for him to return.
  • Son of Peleus, great godlike Achilles! Happy man, you died on the fields of Troy, a world away from home, and the best of the Trojan and Argive champions died around you... [But] For my return Zeus hatched a pitiful death at the hands of Aegisthus- and my accursed wife' (24.38-106)
  • In this scene, Odysseus approaches his father's farm to finally reveal himself, knowing his father has struggled while he has been away. Thus, Laertes emotionally greets his son after revealing himself, exclaiming his thankfulness to the gods. Furthermore, Odysseus' servants celebrate their master's return, tearing up and serving them dinner.
  • 'Father- I am your son- myself, the man you're seeking, home after twenty years, on native ground at last! Hold back your tears, your grief. Let me tell you the news, but we must hurry' (24.359-362).
  • In this scene, Athena saves Ithaca from all-out war after the families of the suitors demand reprimands for the killing of their men. She commands everyone to remain peaceful, utilizing her godly power to invoke fear in the crowd. Through Athena's command, Odysseus can remain in his homeland without fear of punishment for killing the suitors.
  • 'Hold back, you men of Ithaca, back form brutal war! Break off-shed no more blood- make peace at once!' (24.584-585).
