  • Howe and his British army are headed to Philidelphia. We need to stop them from destorying the city and protect the Continental Congress meeting there.
  • Fire!

  • General Washington tells his soldiers about Howe's plan.

  • The Battle of Brandywine occurred on September 11, 1777. Washington hears the British were planning to take over Philadelphia, so he brings his men there. The British and General Howe defeat the Americans and then keep going to Phiidelphia.
  • Great job guys!

  • The Battle of Germantown happened on October 4, 1777. George Washington had made a good plan, but the thick fog that covered the area helped the British to win. The Americans then retreated to Valley Forge.
  • After retreating at the Battle of Germantown, the Americans set up camp at Valley Forge. Here they experience extremely cold temperatures and a lack of supplies and food. The Americans were able to get military officers and volunteers from other countries to train them and give them supplies.
  • Washington and his army chased the British army around New Jersey. On June 28, 1778, he caught up with them and cheered on his men in the battle, which they ended up winning.
  • That night, the British snuck away to cross the Hudson River and get into New York City, but Washington camped with his army near them.
