  • Switching the Mindset
  • Madison recently started at a new school focused on her career path. She typically does really well in school. She has noticed her new classes are a lot harder than the ones at her old school. She has never been a big studier and is use to doing just fine in her classes.
  • Stuck in a Fixed Mindset
  • I don't get it. Why can't I figure out this math problem? I am great at math!
  • The evening after a test in class she checked her grade and realized she had scored a C-. Madison is used to doing well without much effort in her classes, she doesn't believe that can change. She has to figure out how she can get her grades up so she doesn't fail out of the school.
  • Struggle With The Norm
  • No way I got a C-! How is that possible? What do I do?
  • I am not sure how I failed the last text, I thought I knew what we were doing in class.
  • A New Growth Mindset
  • Some Needed Advice
  • Madison approached her teacher, Mrs. Jones for advice. She wants to do better. Mrs. Jones tells Madison that she really needs to take time outside of school and push her self to review. She also leaves her self as an option for extra review, leaving Madison with a couple options of what to do.
  • Are you taking time to study at home? I am available during multiple periods in the day if you need to come in for extra review.
  • Madison's father approaches her to ask what advice the teacher had. Madison tells him and lets him know that she is going to take more time to study and reviewing. Her dad really likes this plan and also offers out her support, giving her another option for help.
  • I think that is a good plan. Maybe you can continue to use that in your other classes.
  • I really need to work and make sure I understand the material. Maybe I can make some flashcards and stop by my class for review during our free period.
  • Come the next test Madison can fell the growth she has made. She understands the materials she is reading on the test, even the ones she had struggles on. There is even material that she once didn't understand that she now knows because she got help.
  • A New Accomplishment
  • Oh, I remember this, this too. I know what I am doing!
  • Really! I can't believe it! I will!.
  • Mrs. Jones relayed the good news to Madison that she scored an A. Madison now understands the effort it takes to do well in this new school. From now on she will push her self and work to learn the new material from this school.
  • Madison, good news. You got an A on the last test. Keep up the good work and remember to push yourself past to ensure you know the material.
