Storyboard Text

  • When I started reading this article, I didn't expect Gina's story to be so beautiful because the beginning was so upsetting. I was sitting on my couch and I tried to think what I would have done in Gina's mom's situation. I thought about the bravery and courage she had, and it made me think about how I would and could be as an educator for parents of children with disabilities!
  • As an Educator I would have open communication with parents. I would keep them updated and communicate with them about their child and what they would expect to see for them. Learning about Gina's story and the hardships her family had to endure, as an educator I would always speak about poisitives that the child has had throughout the day as opposed to the negatives.
  • In my classroom, I would have a secure and trusted environment for all. I would provide the necessary time and safe space for the parents of my students to ask me questions and rely on me for support. My classroom would be a judgment-free zone, with opportunities for everyone to learn from one another and achieve their best results. Gina's story is a success all around, with all of the positives that have happened in her life to the organizations she helped make possible for other students just like her. Finally, I would help ask them questions about what resources they have for their child and how I could further help them to make the transition to school and home life as easy as possible.
