  • THE FRENCH REVOLUTIONby: Sienna Guel
  • Conditions in France in the late 1780's
  • The men to the left are men that are a part of the 3estates. The man with the blue coat represents the 1st estate (clergy), the man with the red and white top is the 2nd estate (nobility) and the man on the floor is apart of the 3rd estate (commoners). This government is called old regime.
  • The 1st and 2nd estates were allowed to treat the 3rdestate poorly just because they had not been born into the other estates. The 3 estates were all treated differently. The system wasn't made off of wealth or anything like that. It was based off of what you were born into. The 3rd estate paid 97% of the finances and the other 3% was paid by the 1st and 2nd. So it wasn't fair at all, and ended up putting them in a finical criss.
  • The meeting of the estates general
  • On May 5th 1789 a meeting was called by King Louis XVI because he had finally noticed the problem with the finical part of the government. Which is called The meeting of the Estates general. This meeting was called to solve the financial crisis they were in.
  • The tennis court oath
  • As a result of the meeting the 3rd estate formed their own National Assembly. The Tennis courts oath was a promise of a new and limited powers for the king
  • The storming of the Bastille
  • On July 14th, 1789 the National Assembly heard that the king was going to send his army to Paris so the citizens attacked prison Bastille to take the weapons. The Citizens ended up taking their cannons and gunpowder. This ended up starting the French Revolution.
  • The great fear/march on versailles
  • In October 1789 thousands of people who were mostly women marched 12miles where King Louis XVI stayed at. They were unhappy with the way the king showed no care for their desperation. The women were running out of bread which is what they made their money from and the king did nothing which caused the march.
