  • Politica Leadership
  • Military Leadership
  • Military Strategy
  • TThe main political leader of the union has to be Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the united states. Lead the Union in the civil war from 1661 to 1665 until he was unfortunately assassinated. Greatly opposefd the Souths ideology of slavery.
  • Advantage
  • The Union had several military leaders including William T. Sherman, Geroge B McCllean, and George Meade. Most notably though is Ulysses S. Grant who led the battle of Appomattox Court House and made Robert E Lee surrender, a notable southern leader. Grant later becomes the 18th president of the United States as well.
  • Advantage
  • The strategy that the Union had was similar to the siege strategy used repeatedly in the Civil war. The plan was called the Anaconda plan. What the north had planned on doing was closing off all of the south's sports and making it so that they wouldn't trade and then the north would slowly constrict the south's numbers and have them surrender.
  • Advantage
  • One advantage that the north had was that they had a steady stream of guns and ammo because of the factories and iron mines they had. The north had 90% of the country's iron factories before secession so the constant flow of ammunition gave the north a major advantage.
  • Another major advantage the north had was that they had a massive population. The north had a dense population of 22 million people while the south only had 11 million people. Of those 11 million people, a third of the population were enslaved people. So the north had a massive advantage when it came to military power.
  • Another advantage the north had was the national reserves of money. The national bank had lots of money reserved and so most war costs came from the reserves the bank had. While in the south they had a dying economy surrounding the idea that if the printed more money, they can pay off all of the bills.
