  • Today, we will be talking about interest groups vs political parties and explain how each one would address gun control. An interest group is a body of people working to influence political opinion or policy.
  • And a political party is an organization with similar ideas trying to get a candidate into office.
  • The National Rifle Association (NRA) is one of the most well known interest groups for gun control. They promote their ideas by educating people on how to properly use guns.
  • Gary Johnson was a candidate who ran for the Libertarian Party. His stance was against gun control because he believed that it's the right of an individual to have a gun.
  • Another way the NRA influences politics is by lobbying. The NRA spends money to natural resources, taxes, civil rights and liberties, etc, to get their influence out there.
  • Another way the Libertarian Party impacted gun control was by getting the media's attention for their stance on gun control. It changed how some people view it and even got them voters.
  • Remember, interest groups work to influence politics while a political party has a goal of getting a candidate into office.
  • That is the end of the presentation and us explaining interest groups vs political parties.
