- Lennie kills his puppy on accident.
- I like to pet nice things with my fingers, sof' things.
- ... I jus' set an' stroke it ' cause it's so soft... Here-feel right here.
- Curley's wife comes in and after a short conversation with Lennie, she lets him touch her hair.
- I done a real bad thing...George'll be mad...In the brush till he come.
- Curley's wife tries to tell Lennie to stop stroking her hair but after scaring him, Lennie ends up breaking her neck, killing her.
- I'm gonna go in the bunkhouse...you come out and tell the guys about her...I'll come along and make it like I never seen her...So the guys won't think I was in on it.
- Ok.
- Candy discovers Curley's dead wife and tells George about it. They make a plan to make it look like George wasn't in on killing her.

- Slim, Carlson, Crooks, Whit, and Curley find Curley's dead wife.

- All right, you guys...When you see 'um...Shoot for his guts.
- Curley tells everyone to find Lennie and shoot him in the guts.
