The French Revolution started in 1789 and ended in 1799. This was a time when the commoners of France rose up against the monarchy.
The Tennis Court Oath
What can we do about all theses problems in our beloved country?
There were many issues that led to the French revolution including: resentment from lower classes, new ideas in government, economic problems, high taxes and prices, questions from the Enlightenment. These problems were affecting the third estates, which included 97% of France's population.
The Storming of the Bastille
A representative from each estate class was a important deciding factor at this meeting. The main reason for this meeting was to propose new ideas for France's financial problems caused by King Louis. As a result of this meeting, the third estate formed a national assembly, that signaled the outbreak of the French Revolution.
The Great Fear
The Tennis Court Oath was a pledge to the people that political rules and authority was created and was coming from the nation's people and their decisions, not the monarchy. The third estates leaders insisted to stay until they came up with a new constitution.
A group of commoners from the third estates stormed the Bastille in Paris on July 14, 1789 on the search for gun powder. The Bastille was a very important prison in Paris. Afterwards, the commoners paraded around the streets with dead mans heads on sticks.
