  • It doesn't have to be this way.
  • Who fired?
  • General Thomas Gage led the British soldiers from Boston to Concord through the night in attempt to catch the colonists off guard.
  • What Did the Colonists Do?
  • The lamps were hung at the church, so the messengers took action. Messengers such as Paul Revere rode around town warning the people about the British.
  • The Effect On the British
  • A shot was fired by an unknown person in Lexington. Both sides assumed that he other side fired... So each side fired at the other!
  • The War had Begun
  •  Around 300 minutemen surrounded the British soldiers causing a violent outbreak. Eight colonist were killed in the chaos.
  • All of the fighting caused the British soldiers to retreat back to Boston. Overall, the British army lost about 73 men. Additionally to that, 200 British soldiers were either wounded or missing.

  • All of the previous let the colonists know that the war had begun. Despite loyalists being against it, the Battle of Lexington and Concord was the start of the American Revolution.
