  • I am terribly sorry to inform you that you have been diagnosed with Osteosarcoma.
  • I will run across Canada to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.
  • This is going to be a long journey!
  • Terry Fox was diagnosed with bone cancer in his right leg in 1977 and had his leg amputated at the age of 18.
  • Keep up the good work, buddy.
  • While recovering in hospital, he was inspired by the other young cancer patients he met and was determined to do the impossible.
  • Is he going to be alright?
  • Terry Fox dipped his artificial leg in the Atlantic Ocean on April 12th, 1980 and started his marathon across Canada.
  • On average, Fox would run about 42 km a day. He was supported by long-time friend Doug Alward, who drove a van along the route.
  • The only thing that could have stopped Terry from reaching the Pacific Ocean did. Cancer returned in his lungs and he was forced to stop on September 1st, 1980 after having run 5,373 km.
  • One month before his 23rd birthday,Terry Fox dies peacefully at the Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster. Before his death on June 28, 1981, Terry had achieved his once unimaginable goal of $1 from every Canadian.
