Storyboard Text

  • After the Saxons' conquered the island of Britain in the 5th century, it was divided into kingdoms. Eventually, certain kingdoms began to dominate, and finally King Ecgberht of Wessex was proclaimed King of all England! There was relative peace in England until...
  • All hail Ecgberht, son of Ealhmund of Kent, King of Wessex, and all of England!
  • ...Until the Danes began to invade.
  • Time to pillage and plunder these coastlines!
  • At the battle of Ashdown, a young prince by the name of Alfred directed the Saxons against the invading Danes, and won a great victory!
  • FORWARD!!!
  • Prince Alfred was crowned King of England in 871.
  • Long live the King! Long live the King! Long live the King!
  • Despite their defeat at Ashdown, the Danes did not halt their advance. They continued their combat with the Saxons.
  • ATTACK!!!
  • Finally, Alfred forced the Danes to negotiate a treaty between them. They decided to share the island, and split it into halves. Today, King Alfred is remembered as Alfred the Great for the great deeds he accomplished to establish the kingdom of England.
