Storyboard Text

  • At the Capulet's party, Tybalt recognizes Romeo's voice. Tybalt is enraged because Romeo is a Montagues and a Capulet family foe. Realizing that there is a Montague present, Tybalt sends a servant to fetch his rapier.
  • This, by his voice, should be a Montague.—Fetch me my rapier, boy. What, dares the slaveCome hither covered with an antic faceTo fleer and scorn at our solemnity? Now, by the stock and honor of my kin,To strike him dead I hold it not a sin.
  • Capulet overhears Tybalt and asks him why he is suddenly angry. Tybalt then goes on to explain to his uncle about a Montagues, Romeo being present at their gathering. He explains to his uncle that Romeo is merely coming just to ruin everybody’s night.
  • Why, how now, kinsman? Wherefore storm you so?
  • Young Romeo is it?
  • Uncle, this is a Montague, our foe,A villain that is hither come in spiteTo scorn at our solemnity this night.
  • ’Tis he, that villain Romeo.
  • Capulet then tells Tybalt not to be concerned and to leave the young Romeo alone as he is well regarded in Verona and he will not hurt anyone at this feast. Tybalt protests against his uncle's words.
  • Content thee, gentle coz. Let him alone. He bears him like a portly gentleman,And, to say truth, Verona brags of himTo be a virtuous and well-governed youth.I would not for the wealth of all this townHere in my house do him disparagement. Therefore be patient. Take no note of him.It is my will, the which if thou respect,Show a fair presence and put off these frowns,An ill-beseeming semblance for a feast.
  • It fits when such a villain is a guest.I’ll not endure him.He shall be endured.
  • Capulet then yells at Tybalt, telling him to listen to him and leave Romeo alone so he does not cause a scene around his guests
  • What, goodman boy? I say he shall. Go to.Am I the master here or you? Go to.You’ll not endure him! God shall mend my soul, You’ll make a mutiny among my guests,You will set cock-a-hoop, you’ll be the man!
  • Tybalt is still against his uncle’s words so Capulet scolds him until he agrees to keep the peace.
  • Go to, go to.You are a saucy boy. Is ’t so indeed? This trick may chance to scathe you. I know what. You must contrary me. Marry, ’tis time—Well said, my hearts.—You are a princox, go.Be quiet, or—More light, more light!—for shame,I’ll make you quiet.—What, cheerly, my hearts!
  • Why, uncle, ’tis a shame.
  • As Capulet moves on, Tybalt vows that he will not let this indignity pass. Romeo will soon see what’s coming for him.
  • Patience perforce with willful choler meetingMakes my flesh tremble in their different greeting.I will withdraw, but this intrusion shallNow seeming sweet, convert to bitterest gall.
