  • The Japanese Social Pyramid
  • Hello there my name is Lucas and I will be talking about the Japanese Social pyramid throughout the comic strip
  • Emperor
  • I am the emperor. I am the ruler at the top of the Japanese society.
  • Shogun and Daimyo
  • We are the Daimyo and Shogun. The second highest class above the Samurai, but below the emperor.
  • Lucas Ibarra-Rivera#144/21/21World HIstory
  • Samurai Warriors
  • WE are the Samurai. The third highest social class, under the daimyo and shogun, but above the peasants and artisans.
  • Although the emperor of Japan was at the top of the social class he didn't actually hold any real power. That honor belonged to the Shogun and Daimyo
  • Peasants and Artisans
  • We are the artisans and peasants. We are right under the Samurai on the social class, but are above the merchants.
  • The Daimyo were large estate owners who paid no taxes to the government. They had their own private armies of trained warriors known as samurai. The Shogun was the most important daimyo. Shogun means "supreme commander of the army". The Shogun was meant to rule on the emperor's behalf but his own personal interests normally came first. The shogun was the true ruler of Japan.
  • Merchants
  • We are the merchants. We are the lowest social class right under peasants and artisans
  • The samurai were a group of fearsome warriors who served in the daimyo's own personal armies. The samurai followed a code of honor similar to chivalry which is known as Bushido. To them dying an honorable death was more important than living a long life. Samurais were not allowed to own land and were often paid with the taxes of the peasants and artisan which was often rice.
  • The peasants and artisans made up the largest of Japan's social class. While the samurai and daimyo provided protection for them they were honor-bound to pay taxes and provide them with food or weapons.
  • Merchants produced no goods that contributed to the Japanese society, but they sold things like brooms, fish, cloth, animals, and many more items similar to those.
