- Beginning Stage
- I love you and can't wait to start a life together
- Childbearing Stage
- you said you would have the nursery ready by yesterday! it still isn't done

- Parenting Stage
- I need to take Jake to soccer practice after school
- Elijah needs to be fed and put to sleep
- - The couple have gotten married and are taking the first step to move in together and start their family unit. They have assumed the roles of husband and wife.
- Launching Stage
- We will miss you, keep in touch regularly and call us on the daily to check-in!
- - The couple is expecting a baby and has gotten so caught up in expectant parenthood that they have forgotten to pay attention to their own relationship. Conflicts arise between them during this stage as their focus diverts from their relationship.
- Mid-years Stage
- - The couple has two kids of different ages and recognizes that both kids have individual needs that need to be fulfilled. They work together to achieve this goal.
- Aging Stage

- During the launching stage, the parents and rest of the family members get ready to readjust the organization of the homes as the eldest child leaves the house [to pursue an education]
- During this stage, the couple is not classified as "empty nesters". Both their children have left the home and they regain focus on their personal relationship with one another. They have more leisure time to indulge in new hobbies such as travelling.
- Let's go to Europe this summer, just the two of us!
- This is the final stage wherein the couple has now assumed the roles of grandparents. Often times the grandparents spoil their grandchildren
