- Scene 1: Reminiscing
- Why am I the only person on this planet with no friends?, it is so lonely here.
- Maybe going for a walk will make me feel better.
- Scene 2: Doubts
- Well, I knew this wouldn't help, maybe I'd just be better off dead.
- Scene 3: New Encounters
- She is so pretty, should I say hi?
- Um..Hi I'm Matthew, Can I pet joey?
- Awe he looks like he could use a friend.
- Hi I'm Sabrina and this is my dog Joey.
- Matthew has had a hard time making friends. He is a shy and quiet guy that no one is willing to get to know. He feels invisible and struggles with depression. He has not met anyone with the same interests as him or someone who even acknowledges him. Matthew suggests going outside and talking a walk may clear the dark thoughts in his head.
- Scene 4: Bonding
- Joey seems to like him, I hope he would like to be my friend.
- Matthew finds that his walk is not helping his thoughts and feelings. He contemplates suicide once again. Matthew is sad and lonely and feels as though nothing will change. Patterns of social relations encourage these thoughts as he notices everyone else at his school has a place to fit in.
- Scene 5: Interaction
- I love to listen to music and play guitar. What is your favourite thing to do?
- Okay well, you can consider us friends.What is your favourite thing to do?
- Oh me too! I love music. We already have so much in common. Can you play the song Hey There Delilah on guitar?
- Matthew meets a girl named Sabrina and her dog Joey. Sabrina notices that Matthew seems upset and hopes to make him smile. Sabrina knows that the smallest gestures can mean a lot to anyone. Social interaction could have a big impact on anyone especially those struggling with depression.
- Scene 6: Hope
- Yes! it is actually my moms favourite song. Are you a big fan of the Plain White T's?
- Maybe this world isn't so bad after all. I guess I could give it another chance.
- She seems so nice, I hope she will be my friend.
- Matthew is hopeful for a potential friend, unknowingly Sabrina. is also looking for the same thing. Matthew enjoys playing with Joey and notices that it is the first time has smiled in a long time. He feels a little bit better now that someone has taken the time to approach him.
- I would like that, thank you, I don't have many friends.
- How would you like to finish our walk with us?
- Matthew has made his first friend and is excited to get to know her. He finds that they have things in common. Matthew finds himself smiling wider and the sun feels a little bit brighter. His new friend Sabrina is a very happy and positive person and he enjoys her company.
- Sabrina notices that Matthew seems a lot happier than from before on the bench. She is enjoying having a new friend as they continue their walk. Matthew has created social ties which have a positive affect on his mental health.
