- Starr and her family live in Garden Heights. It is not a very rich neighborhood but everyone gets along. Starr is at a party with her childhood best friend Khalil. The party soon gets shut down and Khalil offers to take her home. (Thomas 12)
- Rising action pt. 1
- We understand...
- While driving Starr home, Khalil is stopped by a cop. After talking the cop asks Khalil to step out of the car while he goes to get something in his car. Khalil goes to his window to check on Starr and the cop shoots him three times. This kills Khalil and leaves Starr traumatized.
- Rising action pt. 2
- I am so happy I got let off without any charges! This is great
- After the accident, we see Starr's mom comforting her. Throughout the book, Starr's mom does anything for her kids. She puts her kids before anything else and is always there for them. She wants what is best for them.(Thomas 27)
- Climax
- Starr is called to talk to the police about what happened that night. Her uncle tells her that this will help bring justice for Khalil. Starr agrees because she wants that for him. She tells the police that officer 115 shot her frined.
- officer 115 killed my friend for no reason
- It is discovered that even though Starr told her story, no charges are pressed against officer 115. The police do not intend to prosecute the officer in any way, even after what he did. This gets Starr and lots of other people angry and ready to fight for a change.
- Starr realizes she wants justice for Khalil and agrees to testify before the grand jury. She brings to light the truth of what really happened the night of Khalil's murder. This is her biggest attempt to get him justice and fight for what she believes.
