Louis XVI was a French king from 1774 to 1792. During this time he inherited the debt issue formed by his father (who ruled before him). Louis made this debt issue worse by spending large sums of money during France's involvement in the American Revolution.

Marie-Antoinette was the wife of Louis XVI and she was the primary symbol of French royalty. She rejected reform which provoked unrest, this is one of the main causes of the French Revolution. She also helped overthrow the monarchy in August 1792.
COMMITTEE OF PUBLIC SAFETY
Maximilien Robespierre was one of the lead members of the Committee of Public Safety. The purpose of the committee was to defend the nation against enemies. In order to do this Robespierre killed anyone who was an "enemy of the revolution". He killed more than 17,000 people during this time.

Napoleon was brought to France to bring order and rules to the country. To do this he first overthrew the Directory. He became the first Consul of France and was elected to power.
Lazare Carnot was a French soldier who was appointed by the Committee of Public Safety to help reorganize failing war efforts. Carnot was a French mathematician and politician.
Jacques Necker was a Swiss-born banker. He became France's director general of finance. Necker was pro-reform and produced a government budget.
