Jamestown

- The first settlers arrived in Jamestown (1607). There was little preparation which led to many deaths. Most people in the town didn't work so, malnutrition and starvation killed many people.
- John Smith arrived in 1608 and forced everyone to work. This made sure that there was enough food for everyone in the village.
- He who shall not work shall not eat.
- Pocahontas, the daughter of Powhatan, united the settlers and the Natives forming an initial alliance. This formed trading between the two groups
- Together we can help each other!
- John Rolfe was the husband of Pocahontas. He is the father of the tobacco industry.
