  • This land is just a desert, worthless.
  • The purchase happened in 1803 and costed over $15 million. This is equivalent to $342 million today.
  • Stephen H. Long
  • The possibilities and ideas this land could contain.
  • They discovered more of the north east part of Kansas and thought that it looked nice. There was a lot of things that they found very fascinating to them.
  • Jackson's Speech
  • Who would ever prefer that land over where everyone else lives?
  • He said the land was just a large desert and called it worthless. He also compared it to Africa and said it was like it.
  • Indian Removal Act
  • Stephen Long was the guy who discovered the majority of Kansas. He originally called it "The Great American Desert." He thought better of this and thought of all of the possibilities.
  • Jackson's speech was him talking about why would you want land that's covered in forest and is flat. Than having large civilizations with populations over 12,000,000.
  • The Removal Act forced the Indians to move and relocate there area. Many tribes had struggles trying relocate and find good land.
