- The rocks here formed 70 to 100 million years ago, in the Mesozoic era not to long ago at all.

- This isn't the same for the entire park though, as Kings Canyon national park was formed as a result of tectonic activity along the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California. Over millions of years, the movement of plates has caused the mountains to rise and the land around to shape and fold forming the canyon.
