- Flash Back: Gatsby left his loving parents because they were poor farmers and wanted to pursue something greater
- I can't live like them anymore.
- Gatsby later then takes care of Cody on his drinking days and studies abroad with him after dropping out of school. He wishes to be like him.

- Nick goes to check up on Gatsby and see's a get together between the Sloans and Tom, he is very confused
