- As all the kids got outside safely, Johnny lifted Ponyboy out of the church.
- Dally came outside and knocked Ponyboy out while trying to save Johnny from the flames.
- In the ambulance, Ponyboy tells the person with him that they were not heroes and about how Johnny killed Bob out of self-defense.

- Ponyboy waits in the hospital bed with the schoolteacher from the ambulence.
- Darry and Soda arrive and Darry tells Ponyboy that he's been strict on him because he's afraid that he might loose someone else, like mom and dad.
