Storyboard Text

  • The newly freed son and father had not a clue about where to go but heard about the Homestead act and set to travel many miles west to find a new life. Before 1870 they would have never ha a opportunity like this
  • They traveled many miles to find shelter in a abandoned sod house where they spent the and thought about their next steps
  • As they walked farther they saw windmills and knew a well was near by. They found a groundwater well that they drank from as they were severely dehydrated.
  • They had to hop a train car leaving the horse behind as the had no time to put him in. They started their journey on the Transcontinental railroads.
  • They found the open range where they would be able to start their new lives . This is also where they found out about the Indian War and the father went to help the Native Americans because he thought it was unfair for them to take their land. The father never came back as he died in the war. The son went on to build the life that his father would have wanted
  • He built the farm on this isolated land where there was not much as he didn't have the funds but still made a living. He had barbed wire to keep the animals in and stranger out, he wanted to buy a steel plow but was unable to as he didn't want to be more indebt to the landowners and other people his father borrowed from on this long journey. There were many effects of this settlement but the most important one was becoming a cowboy. This farm was a living memory of the boys father.
