  • We can take you to where he is, and perhaps your men will help us
  • He is not here.
  • Which among you is called Okonkwo?
  • Tell me where Okonkwo is or I’ll lock all of you up!
  • It is against our custom; when a man takes his life, his body is considered evil and it is an offense against the Earth
  • Can your men help take him down and bury him, we asked a stranger but it may take a while.
  • Hmm... okay. Men, take the body down.
  • Why can't you guys take him down yourself?
  • Yes sir
  • .
  • Suddenly, Okonkwo's eyes opened, and everyone was shocked
  • I am Ani, the Earth Godess. I recognize the suicide of Okonkwo, and although it is an abomination to me, I see that he is a devoted ang great man regarding his values and cultural roots.
  • Although Okonkwo isn't perfect, he has good intentions for Umuofia, and I have brought him back to life to purify our village and drive the lepers out.
  • Okonkwo, I need you to unify your village, and fight the lepers to drive them out. You are losing your cultural roots.
  • And so, Okonkwo carried Ani's will out and eagerly preached to the people of Umuofia, convincing them to fight back and perserve their culture.
  • So, Okonkwo successfully convinced his people to fight for their land. They put up a fight against the British, and although it broke their heart to fight against their brothers, they needed the purity of their village back. Though some lives were lost, the Igbo came back vicorious and the British missionaries left respectfully and never ovestepped again. Okonkwo regained respect from all of his people.
