  • The first Battle of Saratoga was also called the Battle of Freeman's farm and happened in 1777. A militia from Virgina and other colonial forces attacked the British.
  • The colonists won! The British lost two men for every one on the Colonist side.
  • The Second Battle of Saratoga was also known as the Battle of Bemis Heights. The colonists circled the British and fought them and their German allies.
  • This battle was also won by the Americans! They forced the British to serrender and retreat North.
  • This victory was a major turning point for the Americans. It even convinced the French to aid the colonists in the war.
