The French and the English decided to start a war over the Ohio River Valley because they didn't agree on who owned it. Both sides of the war claimed they wanted control of the river valley for settlement by Virginians and Pennslyvanians but it was also fur trade with the American Indian tribes.
The battle of Jumonville Glen was the first battle of the war and was fought on May 28th, 1754. Some friendly American Indians told George Washington that 50 French soldiers and Indians were hiding in a revine about 15 miles away. Washington and his men decided to attack first and started the war.
The Treaty of Paris was signed in 1763 to end the war. The treaty made France give up all of its territorys in mainland North America. This also made the Cherokee give up a lot of their land and created a boundry dividing the South Carolina colony and the Cherokee territory.
