  • You're spies! We don't want you here!
  • Pearl Harbor was attacked on December 7th, 1941. This surprise attack set off a chain of events that would ultimately force the United States to join the Allies and declare war on the Axis powers. Following the Japanese attack, Japanese-Americans saw a dramatic increase in racial tension at home
  • What's gonna happen to us?
  • Where are we going?
  • The American people became angry with the Asians living in their neighborhood. They would vandalize their houses and businesses and tell them they weren't wanted in their own communities.
  • The next year on February 19th, Franklin Roosevelt signed Executive Order 9066. It stated that Japanese Americans in the west were being removed from their homes. About 120,000 Asian Americans were moved into internment camps.
  • After the Executive Order was signed, they all were taken out of their homes, allotted only two bags, and got on buses to take them to internment camps. They didn't know what was going to happen but they were all afraid for their own lives and safety.
  • Families were crammed into little buildings where they would live for the next 4 years. Families would be put together and have to share the already small space, so much of the belongings they brought were used for other things like privacy and clothes.
