  • Person vs Person : Lyddie vs Mistress 
  • How dare you leave without tellin' me ?! You ain't gonna work here anymore ! You're fired !
  • Person vs. Nature : Lyddie vs Bear
  • Don't nobody make sound or he'll get angrier. 
  • Person vs Society : Lyddie vs Ezekiel
  • You must be Lydia Worthen. My hostess, I presume. Please, sit down.
  • He must be runaway slave !! Should I turn him in or keep him here ??
  • Lyddie goes to the farm without the permission from the Mistress. And after she returns to the tavern she finds that she is fired from her job. This is an example of Person v.s Person because Lyddie and the Mistress have a conflict and the Mistress fires Lyddie.
  • A bear intrudes into their cabin and darts searching for food and knocks over everything. Lyddie and her family climb up to the loft to avoid being hurt by the bear.This is an example of Person v.s Nature because Lyddie’s family is in conflict with the bear because the bear is knocking over things , trying to get to them, and eating their food. In this scenario Lyddie represents person and the bear represents nature.
  • Lyddie meets Ezekiel a runaway slave that sought shelter on her farm. He ran away from slavery. This shows Person v.s Society because society viewed slaves as a property and is in conflict with them. Society was against African Americans. Lyddie was conflicted for not telling the society.
