After the Ionian revolt, Perisa decided to conquer Greece to prevent more uprisings.
The Burning of Athens
Over 25000 Perisan soldiers fought 10000 Greeks, but the Greeks still managed to win. After the victory, a messenger ran 25km to deliver the message. Tht is where the marathin run comes from.
Battle of Salamis
After their defeat at Marathon, the Persians decided to attack Greece again. They sent a massive fleet to attack Thermopylae, catching the Greeks by suprise. King Leonidas of Sparta and three hundred Spartans held a narrow pass at Thermopylae to buy the Greeks time. Sadly, Leonidas and all three hundred Spartans died.
Epilogue
When the Persians arrived at Athens, the discovered it abandoned. The decided to burn it anyway, as a sign of victory.
The massive Persian fleet fought the Athenian fleet at the battle of Salamis. The big and less amneuverable Persian ships were quickly rammed and sunk by the speedy Greek tiremes.
After the Greeks won the Persian war, they decided to unite together and form the Delian League to prevent future attacks.
