  • The Rise Of The Roman Republic: How Us Plebeians Got More Rights
  • The Etruscan kings from northern Italy would rule us. Later in 509 B.C.E we basically took over and then we had no kings anymore and created a republic. We had a new governing system where everyone could govern but unfortunately, not everyone got the same amount of rights. They divided us into two classes the Patricians & Plebeians. The Patricians had way more rights and could so much more than us. It was unfair and we were treated badly. So in 494 B.C.E we left the city and we didn´t come back until they met our demands.
  • When we left the city we found this hill that we camped by. We were not going to leave until they met our demands. They got to participate in government and we didn´t. They could do whatever and we couldn´t. It was unfair and we were tired of it. Also, they made laws to benefit themselves while we just had to obey them. So this is why we are camping and not coming back.
  • When we were going down to get some water from over the hill we see some of the Patricians. They were walking towards us. They said that the city of Rome is falling apart without us and that they need us to come back. We told them that if they meet our demands then we will come back and in 451 B.C.E they agreed with the laws we demanded. We told them we wanted the laws written down so they can´t change them and we called the laws the Twelve Tables.
  • In 367 B.C.E we wanted to add some laws and one of them was one of the two consuls had to be a Plebeian so now Plebeians can also become senators. We can now also elect a lawmaking body. We have taken over the power and I'm so glad we did. Also, it gets better and better in 287 B.C.E we have earned the right to pass laws for all Roman citizens. This means that Citizen´s Association could approve or reject laws.
  • After 200 years of struggling, we finally did it. We won the fight for equality. We got to make laws and gain more power than the Patricians. I don´t feel bad for the Patricians because they treated us like dirt. I´m not surprised they needed us after all. I´m just glad we ended up with the power and inspired other European & American leaders to stand up for themselves and get the rights that they need.
