  • Cubans started a rebellion against Spain, but Spain wanted control, so Valerino Weyler put about ~100,000 Cubans into concentration camps. The Cubans used Yellow Journalism to get Americas attention to help them out.

  • The Maine, an American Ship, blew up. America was already angry at Spain, and they couldn't blame it on Cuba since they were asking for help, so they blamed the Maine on Spain.
