  • Britain established the Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) in 1670 while Cree & Nakota worked for both the British & the French
  • HBC
  • Northwest Company took over the French trade network and while it was British-owned it only had French & Metis working for them. New France became a British colony in 1763
  • British Owners focusing on land and farming

  • Hudson’s Bay Company (HBC) & Northwest Company (NWC) merged and HBC began to lose their monopoly, as independent Metis traders won a court case that allowed them to supply pemmican & furs to the Americans
  • My name is Khimani, in this phase, we have merged the two companies. While also losing the fur trade and buffalos are starting to disappear... it is all very sad
